Never to be one without a challenge or project, this year, 2014, I will be embarking on a project called ‘100 Portraits’.
It makes sense I am really passionate about portrait photography and I adore the diversity of humanity and love to find the beauty in each individual face so this is the perfect project for me. I get to photograph 100 faces either known or unknown – I will photograph my friends and family but also complete strangers on the street. I love street photography too and the challenge of approaching people I don’t know, camera in hand, and asking if I can take their photo. I enjoy telling them why their face stood out from the crowd and seeing it making their day! (We all want to valued right?)
I could cheat and just use the hundreds of photos of people I already have on file (I have unofficially been doing this project my whole photography career I guess) but I want the challenge of new faces, new techniques etc…
I want to shoot everyone with the same lens – Canon 85mm portrait lens which is superb so it means having my camera with me at all times because unlike Project 365, the iPhone won’t cut it this time around.
Stay tuned here as I add the photos as they come. They will be numbered from 1 to 100 in the order in which I take them and at the end of this year they will hopefully be made into a book – what a great way to look back at my year and see all the wonderful people that have crossed my path! I can’t wait to see it unfold!
